Living Altar
A poem on Romans 8 and reminder that, even in our weakness and suffering, we're held by unconquerable love.
Freed from laws of sin and death,
Once captives, welcomed home.
Offered ‘pon a tree your flesh,
Incarnate son, your own.
Joyous news it is to know
We have spirit of Christ;
We, with confidence, can go
‘Cause Jesus paid the price.
Lord, help us not to falter
Lest we’re led astray.
Make known your living altar
‘Til the final day.
Abba, children we are yours,
Testify with spirit.
May we embrace suff’ring for
Your glory, not fear it.
A time will come when groaning
Ceases, liberated
And adopted we’ll be. Sing
Your amens long-awaited.
Though redeemed, we need not wait
To see what we believe.
The hope we have — holy fate —
We wait for patiently.
In weakness and loss for words
We trust God intercedes.
May we be like baby birds
And know you know our needs.
Hear intimate pray’rs of youth —
Troubled generation.
Lead us down lush paths of truth,
Heal your broken nation.
If you, for us, are always,
Who, against us, can be?
Love so great sets hearts ablaze,
Baptismal fire majesty.
Forged in spirit flame, he called,
Justified, glorified.
Chosen conquerors unequalled,
We live because He died.
